The Faculty of Law at the heart of the #VivaIssy Festival

From 19 to 25 May 2025, the city of Issy-les-Moulineaux is hosting the #VivaIssy Festival, an event dedicated to digital innovation and its social, environmental and ethical implications. For the third consecutive year, the Faculty of Law of the Université Catholique de Lille, based in the heart of the Île Saint-Germain district, is taking part in this event, working in close collaboration with local institutional and economics stakeholders.

As a space for experimentation, reflection and dialogue, #VivaIssy is fully aligned with the Faculty’s academic mission: to understand contemporary transformations, foster critical thinking and embed legal knowledge within broader societal debates.

The Court of the Future: debating the promises and risks of artificial intelligence

The festival opened on Monday 19 May on the Issy-les-Moulineaux campus with an original presentation entitled ‘Court of the Future: AI on Trial’. Designed and coordinated by Delphine Dogot (Senior Lecturer and Head of the D.U. Law & Digital Technologies), Alicia Mâzouz (Senior Lecturer, Head of the DCJ Licence and Director of the Clinique du Droit) and Sophie Bernhardt (Teacher and Head of the MAH), this innovative educational project brought together 2nd and 3rd year undergraduate students to stage a fictional court case.

This Court of the Future provided an opportunity to explore the legal and ethical implications of artificial intelligence through a series of concrete cases, ranging from electoral deepfakes and the contested use of AI in education, to mental health concerns and legal liability. This dynamic and committed exercise enabled students to develop their eloquence, analytical skills and sense of debate, while directly engaging with today’s technological challenges.

A close partnership with local stakeholders

That same day, the round table discussion ‘AI in the city’, organised by Linagora at the Villa Good Tech, opposite the Faculty, offered further insight into the impact of AI on French municipalities and how this technology is already transforming local communities. Alongside sector experts and institutional representatives, Delphine Dogot provided an essential academic perspective on the legal challenges posed by AI in public policy.

This collaboration with Linagora, a pioneering company in open-source software, illustrates the Faculty’s capacity to partner with stakeholders committed to responsible and inclusive innovation. The ongoing support of the City of Issy-les-Moulineaux, which coordinates the festival, also highlights the Faculty of Law’s growing role within the local community, both intellectually and institutionally.

A festival connecting knowledge and society

By taking an active part in #VivaIssy, the Faculty of Law of the Université Catholique de Lille reaffirms its commitment to highlighting the connections between research, education and society. It engages in renewed dialogue between legal science, digital transformation and civic responsability. The variety of formats, the involvement of students and the continuous renewal of themes all contribute to this ambition.

The festival continues throughout the week at other key locations across Issy-les-Moulineaux, with a rich programme of workshops, debates, demonstrations and exhibitions, all centred on the theme of artificial intelligence and digital transformation.
