European immersion for Prépa D1 students

On 7 May, students from the ‘Prépa D1‘ (Law and Economics) programme, jointly offered by Marcq Institution and the Faculty of Law of the Université Catholique de Lille, travelled to Brussels for a day of discovery at the heart of the European institutions.

As part of their academic curriculum and in connection with Europe Day (9 May), this educational visit provided them with an opportunity to explore the challenges of European citizenship, the democratic functioning of the European Union and its key political priorities.

At the Parlamentarium, the European Parliament’s visitor centre, the students followed an immersive route retracing the major milestones in the history of European integration. They then had the chance to enter the Parliament’s hemicycle, an emblematic venue where decisions are made that affect the daily lives of millions of European citizens.

The visit continued at the European Commission with two insightful lectures: one on the role of the European Commissioners, the other on current issues related to EU competition policy. The presentations by Francesco Tuzi and Camille Ammeloot gave students an insght into the practical workings of the institutions.

This day in Brussels is fully in line with the aims of the ‘Prépa D1‘: to offer students a demanding and practical education that is open to European issues. A truly enriching immersion day, at the crossroads of law, economics, languages and European affairs.
