2 new graduate certificates at the FLD!

Ever more aware of the issues facing our society, the Faculty of Law has created two new certificates this year to meet the major challenges of our society.

Foreigner’s law and environmental law.

Among the topics that are dear for the Faculty, the defence of vulnerable people and the environment are two particularly important ones. They are notably part of the major research themes of our Research Center, the C3RD. It is under the prism and after having studied how urgent it was to be able to respond to a growing demand for aid from refugee populations, that the Certificate in Foreigners’ law was created, driven by Ms Anne-Claire Grandjean. It is with this same approach and knowing the urgent neeed to protect our planet that Matthieu Meerpoël created the Certificate in Environmental Law, with the aim of training tomorrow’s lawyers to meet this new challenges.

Certificate in Foreigner’s law – Ms Anne-Claire Grandjean

With this new certificate in Foreigners’ law, Anne-Claire Grandjean opens the way to a field that has yet not been highlighted enough and which deserves more and more trained professionals. Accompanying foreigners in the procedures to be carrried out on our territory, whatever thir request, is a very vast subject.

This programme will offer, starting from September 2023 to a whole range of professionals and students the opportunity to discover this subject in a world where migratory flows are increasing and require legal skills. This generalist course will not only deal with refugee law, but also with foreigners in the global sense of the term and stateless persons. It will enable students to understand all the rules for entering and leaving the French territory, deportation to the border, but also those governing residence on our territory. The issues of residence permits will therefore be among the subjects covered. Taught on-campus but also online, this course can be followed from anywhere in the world and, given the number of applications, seems to have already found its future students.

Certificate in Environmental Law – Mr Matthieu Meerpoel

Matthieu Meerpoel is looking at an inevitably topical subject with a certificate dedicated to the environment, with the aim of taking real legal responsibility and even beyond that, a challenge.

Our planet is constantly changing and bringing to the fore environmental issues that tend to become real problems on a daily basis but which also call on our sens of citizenship in order to improve things. Between climate change, loss of biodiversity, pollution, environmental health, water protection, soil management, energy transition, envrionmental crime, etc, it is mandatory that we take legal responsibility and even more so, it is a real challenge. The understanding of these developments and their legal issues is at the heart of the Certificate in Environmental Law, and aims to provide a complementary skill to academic and professional careers. This programme is based on the understanding of the fundamental elements and major issues of environmental law in order to assimilate and put into practice the legal levers for action.
