Two FLD student associations honoured at the Student Engagement Awards

The Faculty of Law of the Université Catholique de Lille is proud to see two of its student associations recognised at the Student Engagement Awards: Sourire d’Enfant du Congo and the Legal Clinic.

Organised by the Université Catholique de Lille, the event highlights the values of solidarity, innovation and responsibility demonstrated by students across the university. It brought together many participants, including students, members of the university community and representatives from the city of Lille.

Several prizes were awarded to initiatives with a strong social impact, and a total of 14 associations were recognised.

The two associations from the Faculty of Law that received awards perfectly illustrate these values.

The Legal Clinic wins 2nd prize

The project involves organising regular legal advice sessions in partnership with the Bus de l’Accès au Droit and Les Restos du Cœur, directly at food distribution sites across the Lille metropolitan area. Four times a month, volunteers run three-hour sessions to welcome, listen to and provide free information to individuals about their rights (employment, family law, immigration, etc.).

Each session supports several beneficiaries by providing clear guidance or directing them towards appropriate legal services. By bringing legal assistance directly to communities in areas with limited access to legal services, the project helps promote access to justice while strengthening local social ties.

Sourire d’Enfant du Congo wins 3rd prize

Their project, “La roue tourne”, aims to provide the Mama Koko orphanage, which cares for 400 children in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, with wheelchairs and crutches to improve support for children with disabilities.

After identifying the needs with the orphanage’s management team, the association will purchase three refurbished wheelchairs and three pairs of crutches adapted to children’s growth. The equipment will be delivered on site in May 2026. This initiative will help improve the children’s autonomy, well-being and inclusion in the daily and educational life of the orphanage.

These awards highlight the commitment and dedication of our students to meaningful causes, once again reflecting the values of solidarity and humanism promoted by our university.
