The Faculty of Law of the Universit\u00e9 Catholique de Lille<\/strong>, in collaboration with the Sorbonne Law School – Universit\u00e9 Paris 1 Panth\u00e9on-Sorbonne<\/strong>, is pleased to host the play “Le cercle des philosophes disparus<\/strong><\/em>“, written and directed by Dominique Rousseau<\/strong>, Emeritus Professor of Public Law at Universit\u00e9 Paris 1 Panth\u00e9on-Sorbonne<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The action takes place in October 1799, on the eve of Bonaparte’s coup d’\u00c9tat (7 November 1799 – 18 Brumaire). In her salon in Coppet, where she is working on her book Considerations on the Revolution<\/em>, Madame de Sta\u00ebl<\/strong> gathers Voltaire, Rousseau, Diderot and Condorcet<\/strong> to reflect on the decade that has passed since the Revolution.<\/p>\n

This piece of civic theatre<\/em> invites audiences to engage with questions that remain highly relevant today. Through this imagined dialogue, it explores the responsibility of intellectuals and jurists in democratic life:<\/strong> should they commit themselves, speak out and take action?<\/p>\n
