From Monday 30 June to Friday 4 July<\/strong>, the Universit\u00e9 Catholique de Lille<\/strong><\/a> will be hosting its sixth Summer School – European Humanism in the Making<\/em><\/strong>, organised by the Federation of European and Lebanese Catholic Universities (FUCE)<\/strong><\/a>, in partnership with the Universitair Centrum Sint-Ignatius Antwerpen (UCSIA)<\/strong><\/a> and with the support of the Erasmus+<\/strong><\/a> programme.<\/p>\n

A timely theme<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

Following last year’s exploration of the relationship between European humanism and artificial intelligence<\/strong>, the 2025 edition invites some thirty students from across Europe, Lebanon and Ukraine<\/strong> to reflect on the impact of populism on the founding values of the European project.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Under the theme Populism Remaking European Humanism?<\/strong><\/em>, this Summer School<\/strong> offers a critical examination of contemporary political developments<\/strong>, viewed through the cultural, philosophical and historical legacies of European identity<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The programme is structured around five thematic modules<\/strong>, each led by academics from partner universities:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • Contribution of History to European Consciousness<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • Literature, the Arts, Translation & European Identity<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • European Enlightenment and the Islamic Heritage<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • European Social Humanism<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • Creative Leadership & Civic Engagement in Action<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Evening public lectures<\/strong> will further enrich the discussions.<\/p>\n

    An active and intercultural approach<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

    Throughout the week, students will take part in lectures<\/strong>, collaboratives workshops, group projects, a collective writing session, and a simulation exercise on European institutions<\/strong>. A day in Brussels<\/strong> is also scheduled, including visits to the European Parliament<\/strong> and the House of European History<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    These activities aim to create an immersive educational experience<\/strong> where intellectual reflection, intercultural dialogue and the discovery of Europe’s heritage go hand in hand.<\/strong><\/p>\n

    A living European project<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

    More than an ordinary Summer School<\/strong>, European Humanism in the Making<\/strong><\/em> is a genuine laboratory of ideas<\/strong>, designed to bring together young people from diverse backgrounds<\/strong> to engage with a central question: What does it mean to be European today?<\/strong><\/p>\n

    By promoting a diversity of perspectives and sharing experiences<\/strong>, this event helps to shape responsible, critical and engaged citizens.<\/strong><\/p>\n

    A committed academic team<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

    The 2025 edition once again brings together a particularly dedicated academic team<\/strong>. Several members of the Faculty of Law at the Universit\u00e9 Catholique de Lille<\/strong> are among those contributing actively to the programme’s success.<\/p>\n
