On Wednesday 11 June 2025, the Faculty of Law of the Universit\u00e9 Catholique de Lille<\/strong> officially inaugurated a new lecture theatre<\/strong> on its Issy-les-Moulineaux campus<\/strong>, named in tribute to Val\u00e9rie Simon de Boissieu<\/strong>, former Director<\/strong> of the Issy campus, who passed away in 2019<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Institutional and political figures<\/strong>, including Andr\u00e9 Santini<\/strong>, Mayor of Issy-les-Moulineaux, and Patrick Scauflaire<\/strong>, President-Rector of the Universit\u00e9 Catholique de Lille, teaching and administrative staff<\/strong> and members of Val\u00e9rie Simon de Boissieu’s family<\/strong> were present to celebrate this solemn, symbolic and moving moment<\/strong>, marking recognition of the commitment<\/strong> of the woman who was behind the development and unique spirit of the campus<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Val\u00e9rie Simon de Boissieu<\/strong> joined the Faculty of Law of the Universit\u00e9 Catholique de Lille<\/strong> in 2009<\/strong> as Head of Studies on the Paris campus<\/strong>, then newly established in La D\u00e9fense<\/strong>. From the outset, she believed in the potential of this site and played a decisive role<\/strong> in shaping it into a place that was both ambitious and welcoming.<\/strong> In 2013<\/strong>, she oversaw the relocation<\/strong> of the campus to larger premises on Rue Gabriel P\u00e9ri in Issy-les-Moulineaux<\/strong>, which she directed until 2019<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

A humanist vision of education<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

‘She led this campus with the passion of someone deeply committed to their mission, and did so with kindness, empathy and an innate sense of community’<\/em>, recalls her brother, Denis Simon<\/strong>, also a member of the Universit\u00e9 Catholique de Lille<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Driven by a desire to serve others, Val\u00e9rie Simon de Boissieu<\/strong> left a lasting impression through her unifying spirit<\/strong> and constant concern for the wellbeing of all<\/strong>: students, academic and administrative staff. ‘She saw teaching as a human journey<\/em>‘, says her son, Victor de Boissieu<\/strong>, keen to highlight how her personality helped<\/strong> shape the identity of the campus: a human-scale, family-oriented environment in which everyone feels welcomed and supported<\/strong>. ‘She had that rare ability to combine efficiency with lightness, high standards with a sens of humour. She could challenge conventions while still respecting the framework<\/em>‘, he adds. ‘Val\u00e9rie is part of the foundation of the Faculty of Law of the Universit\u00e9 Catholique de Lille in Issy-les-Moulineaux. Naming a lecture theatre after her is a remarkable tribute to someone who loved her job and was deeply committed to it<\/em>‘, concludes Denis Simon.<\/p>\n

Although Val\u00e9rie Simon de Boissieu<\/strong> did not live to see the Vaisseau<\/strong>, the new building of the Issy campus opened in September 2024<\/strong>, her spirit will live on<\/strong>. Her name, now associated with a lecture theatre alongside such figures as Robert Badinter<\/strong> and Simone Veil<\/strong>, will forever be inscribed in the walls of the faculty<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
