{"id":31418,"date":"2025-04-03T09:40:37","date_gmt":"2025-04-03T08:40:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fld-lille.fr\/?p=31418"},"modified":"2025-05-05T09:42:19","modified_gmt":"2025-05-05T08:42:19","slug":"uniservitate-2025-conference-service-learning-at-ku-leuven","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fld-lille.fr\/en\/uniservitate-2025-conference-service-learning-at-ku-leuven\/","title":{"rendered":"Uniservitate 2025 conference: Service-Learning at KU Leuven"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On <strong>Wednesday 2 April 2025<\/strong>, several members of the <strong>Faculty of Law<\/strong> of the <strong>Universit\u00e9 Catholique de Lille<\/strong> attented the<strong> &#8216;Uniservitate Western-Europe-North Conference 2025: Five years of transforming education through Service-Learning&#8217;<\/strong>, organised at <strong>KU Leuven<\/strong>, in <strong>Belgium<\/strong>. This event marked the <strong>fifth anniversary of the Uniservitate global programme<\/strong>, dedicated to the<strong> integration of Service-Learning in higher education<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Service-Learning<\/strong> is a<strong> teaching approach<\/strong> that combines<strong> academic learning<\/strong> with <strong>involvement in the field<\/strong>. In this way, students develop their <strong>skills<\/strong> while responding to <strong>concrete needs<\/strong> identified in the community, strenghtening their <strong>critical thinking<\/strong> and<strong> citizenship<\/strong>. It is based on a<strong> logic of reciprocity<\/strong>: the beneficiaries receive <strong>useful support<\/strong> and the students <strong>come away transformed<\/strong> in their relationship with<strong> justice<\/strong>,<strong> law<\/strong> and <strong>human values.<\/strong> It is a process of<strong> mutual growth<\/strong>, which also enriches the <strong>teachers<\/strong> in charge of these projects.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>A time for international exchange<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The conference offered an opportunity to <strong>share the achievements<\/strong> of the <strong>Uniservitate programme around the world<\/strong>. Speakers from various institutions presented their <strong>projects and results<\/strong>, each sharing their experience and solutions to local challenges, including <strong>Fran\u00e7ois Prouteau<\/strong>, <strong>Deputy to the President-Rector in charge of Humanities at the Universit\u00e9 Catholique de Lille<\/strong>, <strong>Caroline Delabre<\/strong>,<strong> PhD-Assistant in charge of Solidarity projects<\/strong> at our Faculty of Law and <strong>Antoine Six, in charge of the Bus de l&#8217;Acc\u00e8s au Droit project<\/strong>. Another example, <strong>Sophia Opatska<\/strong>, <strong>Vice-Rector of the Ukrainian Catholic University<\/strong>, explained how such practices can help to strengthen solidarity and democratic culture in the<strong> context of war.<\/strong> Other speakers also took an enriching look at the <strong>positive impact of Service-Learning<\/strong> at their local level.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Symbolic awards<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>At the end of the day, a moment was devoted to recognising the initiatives that had won prizes at the <strong>Uniservitate Awards 2024<\/strong>, including the<strong> Bus de l&#8217;Acc\u00e8s au Droit<\/strong>, which had won a <strong>Special Mention<\/strong> last year. Each winner received a symbolic gift, such as<strong> flower seeds<\/strong>, illustrating the idea of seeds sown through Service-Learning. These seeds represent the projects that, over time, grow and bear fruit, contributing to a<strong> lasting impact <\/strong>for <strong>students and community<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Continued momentum<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>This conference has <strong>inspired our collective thinking<\/strong> and <strong>strengthened our determination<\/strong> to make <strong>Service-Learning<\/strong> a <strong>sustainable educational tool<\/strong>. By discovering the wealth of experiences elsewhere, we left inspired and determined to <strong>develop our existing initiatives<\/strong> and <strong>come up with new ones<\/strong>.
